On October 15th, news emerged highlighting the burgeoning trend among automakers to delve into in-house battery development in recent years. Marking a significant milestone, the 300,000th battery unit produced by Inpower Battery, a subsidiary of GAC Group, officially came off the assembly line today. Feng Yu, Vice President of GAC Group's Aion Business Unit (BU), pointed out that while many automakers concentrate their in-house R&D endeavors on PACK (battery pack) integration and BMS (Battery Management System) application layers, they still depend on external suppliers for core cell technologies.
In stark contrast, GAC has attained comprehensive in-house R&D and manufacturing prowess, encompassing materials, cells, and PACKs. He underscored the importance of mastering core battery technologies and retaining product definition rights as pivotal for the sustainable and robust growth of enterprises.
