Google has joined forces with Nevoya and the Center for Green Market Activation to introduce 25 electric heavy-duty semi-trucks, along with the necessary charging infrastructure, along the freight corridor connecting Houston and Dallas in Texas. This initiative forms a crucial part of Texas's most extensive known deployment strategy thus far, encompassing a total of 63 Class 8 battery-operated, zero-emission heavy-duty trucks. Through this project, Google stands to gain environmental advantages by obtaining Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), which will help counterbalance the emissions produced by its supply chain logistics. It is anticipated that these trucks will cover roughly 11 million miles each year and are expected to cut down emissions by approximately 92,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent throughout the duration of the contract. By embracing the EAC procurement approach, Google avoids direct involvement in logistics operations, yet facilitates the collective purchase of EACs alongside other firms. This strategy encourages the widespread adoption of zero-emission freight technologies by consolidating demand and could act as a blueprint for other enterprises aiming to diminish emissions within their supply chains.
