The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that Boeing is set to pay a proposed fine of around $3.1 million for a series of safety violations spanning from September 2023 to February 2024. Among these infractions, notable incidents include the January 5, 2024, event where a cabin door plug became detached from an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, along with cases of obstructing the duties of aircraft safety inspectors. Investigations have unveiled hundreds of quality control lapses at Boeing's 737 production facility and among its suppliers. Furthermore, Boeing sought certification for two aircraft that fell short of airworthiness requirements, and there were instances where employees were pressured into approving the release of aircraft with known issues. Boeing has been given 30 days to formally respond to the penalty notice.
