The European automotive sector is ramping up its shift towards electrification, undergoing a comprehensive restructuring that spans production, investment, and the entire industrial chain. This transformation is reshaping the future of the European automotive industry and putting its global competitiveness to the test. Presently, the European market for new energy vehicles is experiencing swift growth. According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, in the first half of 2026, new car registrations in the EU saw a 5.7% year-on-year increase, with pure electric vehicle registrations hitting 1.221 million units. This boosted their market share to 20.7%, up from 15.6% during the same period the previous year. Over the same timeframe, the combined market share of gasoline and diesel vehicles dropped to 29.7%, a decrease from 37.8% the year before. Looking at individual countries, in the first half of this year, pure electric vehicle registrations in France and Germany surged by 62.9% and 48% year-on-year, respectively.
