On August 13, Uber announced that Uber Japan has signed an operational cooperation agreement with Hinomaru Kotsu, which will be responsible for the daily fleet operations of the autonomous taxi pilot project in Tokyo. The project is expected to launch by the end of 2026. Hinomaru Kotsu will handle tasks such as vehicle cleaning and maintenance, while passengers can access the service through the Uber app. The project will utilize Nissan Leaf electric vehicles equipped with artificial intelligence driving technology from the UK-based company Wayve.
