In the First Half of the Year, China's Production and Sales of New Energy Vehicles Surpass 7 Million Units

Data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reveals that during the first half of 2026, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) soared to 7.438 million units and 7.446 million units, respectively, marking a significant year-on-year increase. Notably, the proportion of pure electric vehicle sales climbed to roughly 67%. In June alone, production and sales of NEVs reached 1.598 million units and 1.643 million units, respectively, both witnessing a robust growth of over 20% compared to the same period last year. The share of NEV sales in the total new car sales further ascended to 58.5%, underscoring the burgeoning popularity of eco-friendly vehicles.

During the same period, China's total automobile exports hit a remarkable 5.096 million units, with NEVs contributing 2.355 million units to this figure. Remarkably, in June, automobile exports surpassed the 1 million unit mark for the first time, registering a staggering 75.1% year-on-year increase. Among these, NEV exports reached 523,000 units, marking a 1.6-fold surge compared to the previous year, further highlighting China's growing prominence in the global automotive market.
