On May 27, reporters obtained information from the Traffic Management Bureau under the Ministry of Public Security, stating that the recommended industry standard, titled 'Regulations on Identifying Fatigue Driving in Motor Vehicle Operators', is set to come into effect on June 1. According to the chief drafter of this standard, its primary purpose is to aid in traffic accident investigations, especially in the management of road traffic incidents, by pinpointing instances of fatigue driving among motor vehicle operators. Endorsed by the Ministry of Transport, the two specified situations within the standard for recognizing fatigue driving in passenger vehicle operators are applicable to road passenger transport companies, their drivers, and vehicles. This encompasses scheduled passenger services, chartered passenger transport, and tourist passenger services, but excludes operational activities like taxis (inclusive of ride-hailing services). Regarding truck drivers, the standard does not delineate specific criteria but adheres to the general rules for motor vehicles. Consequently, drivers who operate continuously for over 4 hours without taking a break, or who take breaks lasting less than 20 minutes, will be deemed to be engaging in fatigue driving.
