As per UOL, the world's largest Portuguese-language news outlet, Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD is contemplating the acquisition of a 24% stake in the Alpine F1 team. Moreover, it is keen on taking the reins of Renault's engine plant situated in Viry-Châtillon, France. Should this deal materialize, BYD would etch its name in history as the inaugural Chinese automaker to step into the F1 arena, going head-to-head with elite international teams like Ferrari and Mercedes.

At present, the lock-up period for the shares held by Otro Capital, an investor in the Alpine team, is set to conclude in September 2026. Apart from BYD, Mercedes-Benz and other entities are also in the fray as potential contenders. BYD's Executive Vice President, Li Ke, has previously affirmed that the company is actively considering venturing into premier motorsport domains, including F1 and endurance racing. If this acquisition comes to fruition, it would markedly abbreviate BYD's adjustment period for F1 competitions.
