On May 16 (local time), the inaugural phase of the Astana Light Rail project, undertaken by a Chinese company in Kazakhstan, was formally inaugurated and opened to the public. This light rail system stands as Central Asia’s pioneering fully automated, driverless light rail network, stretching around 22.4 kilometers and encompassing 18 stations. It seamlessly links prominent landmarks and crucial functional zones within Astana. Leveraging Chinese-made equipment, technology, and adherence to Chinese standards, the light rail achieves a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour, substantially cutting down commute durations and fostering the advancement of urban transportation.
