On April 20th, Business Insider carried a report stating that during his appearance on the podcast 'Quick Response', Ford CEO Jim Farley explained his decision to test drive the Xiaomi SU7 rather than a Tesla in 2024. Farley believes that to outmaneuver Chinese competitors, the spotlight doesn't necessarily have to be on Tesla, a brand he perceives as lacking in updated models. He commended Chinese automakers, such as BYD, for their formidable cost competitiveness, describing the progress of Chinese cars as truly awe-inspiring. Farley also pointed out that the next wave of electric vehicle customers in the U.S. is seeking affordable and varied models. Currently, Ford is pivoting towards the development of smaller, more budget-friendly, and hybrid models.
