On April 17, reports surfaced indicating that Tesla (TSLA.O) is gearing up to launch a six-seater variant of its Model Y in India as soon as the following week. This particular model boasts a spacious, long-wheelbase configuration accommodating six passengers and will mark Tesla's inaugural new product introduction in the Indian market, with the vehicles being exported directly from its Shanghai production facility. The strategic initiative is designed to refresh Tesla's product offerings and stimulate sales growth within India. At present, India imposes substantial import duties on automobiles, with rates fluctuating between 70% and 110%. Official Indian data reveals that Tesla registered a mere 227 vehicles in the country throughout 2025.
