On April 17, automotive news outlet Electrek disclosed that Tesla is presently embroiled in more than 20 ongoing lawsuits. These legal challenges encompass a range of issues, including wrongful death allegations linked to its Autopilot feature, securities fraud accusations, and racial discrimination claims. The cumulative potential financial repercussions for Tesla could amount to a staggering USD 14.5 billion. Despite Tesla's efforts to mitigate these legal woes through its 'assertive litigation department' and strategies that some perceive as 'overblown publicity' defenses, the number of lawsuits has continued to escalate, further complicating the company's legal landscape.

An in-depth analysis report reveals that Tesla is grappling with at least 21 distinct types of legal actions, categorized into seven broad areas. The estimated financial losses stemming from these legal battles range from USD 2.7 billion to a daunting USD 14.5 billion. Alarmingly, there have been around 50 to 60 fatal incidents involving Tesla's Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems, with the looming threat of additional lawsuits in the pipeline. The financial toll from lawsuits related to Autopilot/FSD accidents alone could skyrocket to between USD 1 billion and USD 5 billion.

Moreover, Tesla is not only contending with shareholder lawsuits alleging securities fraud but also facing over 900 racial discrimination lawsuits at its manufacturing facilities. The company is further entangled in consumer fraud claims, antitrust litigation, and potential regulatory penalties, adding to its legal and financial burdens.
