The U.S. automotive safety watchdog has officially wrapped up its inquiry into Tesla's 'Smart Summon' remote parking capability, which enables drivers to summon their vehicle at slow speeds via a smartphone app, relying entirely on the car's onboard cameras for navigation.
The probe revealed that collision incidents linked to the feature were exceedingly uncommon, with all reported cases involving minor, low-speed impacts that resulted in no serious injuries or substantial property damage.
Based on these findings, regulators have opted to close the investigation, though they emphasized that the case could be revisited if new evidence emerges. Meanwhile, Tesla has rolled out several software enhancements aimed at refining camera-based obstacle detection and object recognition systems to further bolster safety.
