Volvo has announced a global recall of 40,323 units of its entry-level electric vehicle, the EX30, in response to a potential fire hazard linked to its batteries. This recall encompasses both the single-motor long-range variant and the dual-motor high-performance model, necessitating the replacement of specific modules within the high-voltage battery packs. The batteries implicated in this recall are believed to have been manufactured by Sunwoda. Volvo has assured that the underlying issue has been addressed, with Sunwoda set to supply new battery cells. The suspected cause of the problem is associated with elevated battery charge levels. To mitigate risks, Volvo has recommended that owners restrict charging to a maximum of 70% and park their vehicles outdoors. Earlier in January of this year, Volvo had already recalled 40 units of the 2025 EX30 due to deviations in the production process. At present, it remains uncertain whether these two recalls are interconnected. This latest recall is projected to incur losses amounting to approximately $195 million (equivalent to roughly RMB 1.349 billion).
