As reported by Arstechnica, Waymo, the autonomous driving arm of Google, has rolled out a cutting-edge 'Waymo World Model.' Constructed upon the foundation of Google DeepMind's Genie 3, this model is adept at crafting hyper-realistic virtual driving scenarios. Its primary purpose is to train AI systems to adeptly navigate rare or perilous real-world scenarios, exemplified by scenarios like snowfall blanketing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Diverging from conventional approaches that hinge on real-world road test data, this innovative model permits adjustments to weather conditions, time of day, road signage, and even the introduction of anomalous objects—all through straightforward prompts. It concurrently produces both 2D video and 3D LiDAR data, thereby amplifying the realism and coherence of perception system training. Waymo has asserted that this technological advancement will expedite the deployment of its services in cities characterized by intricate climates and road conditions.
