The Smart Vehicle Internet Platform operated by State Grid forecasts that the charging volume of new energy vehicles during the 2026 Spring Festival holiday will soar to an unprecedented level. The anticipated single-day peak is projected to exceed 34 million kilowatt-hours, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 17%. Notably, the single-day charging peak on highways is expected to surpass 11 million kilowatt-hours, a remarkable surge of over 23%. This trend underscores the growing confidence among vehicle owners in undertaking long-distance electric travel. The charging peak is predicted to occur during the travel rush from February 14 to 15 and the return period from February 21 to 23. The Yangtze River Delta region is anticipated to lead in highway charging volume, with charging stations along the Changshen, Shenhai, and Hukun highways expected to be the busiest. Relevant authorities have already identified 5,567 key support sites and pre-deployed emergency charging equipment to meet the anticipated demand. From February 12 to 23, State Grid will distribute over 1 million coupons through the Easy Charging APP, encouraging vehicle owners to charge at urban charging stations and thus easing the charging pressure at highway service areas.
