Recently, an autonomous vehicle operated by Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, was involved in a safety incident near an elementary school in Santa Monica, California, knocking down a child and causing minor injuries. At the time of the incident, the child suddenly ran out from behind a double-parked SUV and crossed the road. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation to verify whether the vehicle adhered to speed limits in school zones and implemented protective measures for underage pedestrians, while also reviewing Waymo's response to the accident.
