CPCA Branch Reports: From Dec 1-28, National Passenger Car Retail Sales Hit 1.928 Million Units, Down 17% Year-on-Year

On December 31, data released by the CPCA Branch revealed that from December 1 to 28, the national market witnessed retail sales of 1.928 million passenger car units, marking a 17% decline year-on-year and a 3% decrease month-on-month. The cumulative retail sales volume since the start of the year has soared to 23.411 million units, representing a 4% increase compared to the same period last year.
During the same timeframe, the wholesale volume of passenger cars by manufacturers across the country reached 2.134 million units, experiencing a 19% slump year-on-year and a 19% drop month-on-month. However, the cumulative wholesale volume since the beginning of the year has climbed to 28.899 million units, showing an 8% rise year-on-year.
Turning to the new energy vehicle (NEV) market, from December 1 to 28, the national retail sales volume of new energy passenger cars stood at 1.192 million units, showing a 5% increase year-on-year and a 1% uptick month-on-month. The cumulative retail sales volume since the year's onset has surged to 12.664 million units, marking an 18% growth year-on-year.
In the same period, the wholesale volume of new energy vehicles by passenger car manufacturers nationwide was 1.261 million units, experiencing a 4% decrease year-on-year and a 16% decline month-on-month. Nevertheless, the cumulative wholesale volume since the beginning of the year has reached 15.017 million units, indicating a significant 25% increase year-on-year.
Furthermore, from December 1 to 28, the new energy retail penetration rate in the national passenger car market reached 61.8%, while the new energy wholesale penetration rate among manufacturers stood at 59.1%.
