Honda has declared that, owing to the ongoing semiconductor shortage, its vehicle production facilities in both Japan and China will either suspend operations or reduce output from late December to early January of the following year. Despite the resumption of production at its North American plants, the overall production system continues to face instability. The joint venture factory operated by Honda and GAC will cease production for a period of five days, commencing on December 29. Meanwhile, Honda's factory in Japan will halt production for two days on January 5 and 6 next year, with output expected to fall short of initial projections from the 7th to the 9th. Factories potentially affected include the Saitama and Suzuka plants, although the precise scope of production adjustments remains undetermined. Future production plans will hinge on the availability of semiconductors. Earlier, in October and November, Honda's factory in Mexico suspended production, and its facilities in the United States and Canada reduced output due to export controls imposed on Nexperia. However, it remains unclear whether the current semiconductor shortage involves Nexperia's products.
