A significant legal action has arisen in Arizona, implicating Ford Motor Company and three of its dealerships. On August 8, 2023, Abimael Feliciano, aged 60, was operating a Ford C-Max hybrid vehicle when a defective link within the rear hybrid battery's exhaust system of the car resulted in the leakage of hydrogen sulfide gas into the passenger compartment. Tragically, this occurred while he was stationary at a traffic signal, leading to his untimely demise. A post-mortem examination report established that the cause of death was poisoning from a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide. The family of the deceased has leveled accusations of severe design negligence against Ford, contending that the automaker neglected to engineer a secure battery exhaust configuration or to outfit the vehicle with a system capable of detecting and alerting to such gas leaks. Furthermore, they have charged three dealerships in Arizona with negligence in adequately inspecting, servicing, or repairing the vehicle during prior maintenance visits. The legal representative for the plaintiffs emphasized that the lawsuit pertains to the broader safety of individuals using the roads. Feliciano's family is seeking a trial by jury and has also put forth a claim for monetary damages.
