Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has opened up a public consultation on a new national standard concerning new energy vehicles. The proposed standard recommends that the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h, under the default power mode after each vehicle start, should exceed 5 seconds. This measure aims to mitigate the risk of traffic accidents stemming from rapid acceleration. The fresh regulation places a strong emphasis on safety as a top priority. While users will still have the option to manually switch to a high-performance mode, they will be required to take full responsibility for their actions. Furthermore, the new standard mandates that pure electric and plug-in hybrid passenger cars should be fitted with a pedal misapplication acceleration inhibition feature. This function is designed to detect and curb power output during stationary or low-speed creeping conditions, and to provide auditory or visual alerts to the driver.
