Proton Holdings, a Malaysian automaker, has officially commenced operations at the nation's first electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. This milestone signifies Malaysia's foray into EV production. The 82 million ringgit plant, nestled within the "Automotive Hi-Tech Valley" developed by Geely in collaboration with the DRB-Hicom Group, boasts an annual production capacity of 20,000 units, with scalability to reach 45,000 units in the future. The facility will manufacture the Proton e.MAS 7 model, which has garnered significant acclaim in the Southeast Asian market, having sold over 4,000 units in the first half of the year.
