On June 20, Huawei initiated legal proceedings against Transsion Holdings and its affiliated entities at the Munich Chamber of the Unified Patent Court of Europe in Germany. The lawsuit alleges infringement of Huawei's European patent (EP2725797), titled "Offset Decoding Device, Offset Encoding Device, and Image Filtering Device." This patent focuses on enhancing coding efficiency and optimizing memory usage in video coding applications by restricting the depth and scope of offset bits, a technology widely integrated into smartphone image display modules. According to the PatSnap patent database, the patent was initially filed in June 2011, followed by a PCT international patent application in June 2012, with Huawei listed as the original applicant, despite the invention originating from Japanese researchers.
