Blade Urban Air Mobility (BLDE) has finalized a $125 million agreement with Joby Aviation (JOBY) to divest its helicopter ride-sharing operations to Joby. Following the announcement, Blade's shares witnessed a 30% surge during early Monday trading. With a primary focus on the advancement of electric air taxi technology, Joby's acquisition excludes Blade's medical transportation segment, which will operate independently as Strata Critical Medical. This strategic acquisition enables Joby to expedite the commercialization of its electric air taxis while gaining access to Blade's extensive customer base, landing locations, and operational expertise. Additionally, Blade's founder and CEO will maintain oversight of passenger operations, as Blade transitions into a wholly-owned subsidiary of Joby.
