Apple is reportedly planning to incorporate a novel image sensor in upcoming iPhone models, boasting a dynamic range akin to that of the human eye. According to recent reports, the tech giant filed a patent last month titled "Stacked Pixel Image Sensor with High Dynamic Range and Low Noise." This patent unveils a groundbreaking sensor design that fuses stacked silicon technology, multi-layered light capturing capabilities, and advanced on-chip noise reduction mechanisms, achieving an impressive dynamic range of up to 20 stops. This innovative design enables the sensor to precisely capture light details from the brightest to the darkest regions of the same scene, offering a contrast ratio as high as 1,048,576:1, without sacrificing any image information.
