US cable and broadband operator Comcast is enabling Wi-Fi motion-sensing capabilities for millions of compatible Xfinity gateway devices. This feature determines whether there is human or object movement indoors by analyzing disturbances in wireless signals between the gateway and connected devices, allowing routers to perform basic home monitoring tasks without the need for additional dedicated sensors. Available for free as part of the Xfinity Shield service, users can toggle this feature on or off via the Xfinity app, with three modes: 'Home Protection', 'Away Protection', and 'Night Protection'. To use this feature, an XB7 or newer model gateway device is required.
