On August 12, 2026, the US International Trade Commission (USITC) revealed that it had launched a Section 337 investigation concerning certain mobile electronic devices produced by Samsung Electronics and its US-based subsidiary. This move was triggered by a complaint lodged by Japan's Maxell on July 10, followed by an amended complaint on July 24. Maxell claims that the pertinent products infringe upon its patents during their importation and sale within the United States, and has thus petitioned for the issuance of a limited exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order. At present, the USITC has refrained from issuing a ruling on the substance of the case. Instead, an administrative law judge will conduct subsequent hearings to render a preliminary determination. Within 45 days of initiating the investigation, the USITC will establish a target date for its completion.
