On July 1, PlayStation made an announcement stating that, commencing in January 2028, all newly released games will no longer be available in physical disc form. Instead, they will solely be accessible for digital download via the PlayStation Store and other authorized retailers. This policy change will not impact games already released on discs or those slated for release prior to January 2028. Moreover, it encompasses all new games published by both Sony and third-party developers. Sony explained that this decision is a strategic response to the prevailing trend of digital consumption, noting that players' preference for digital games has now substantially outstripped that for physical discs.
