Apple's newly appointed Chief Hardware Officer, Johnny Srouji, is advancing the second round of team restructuring since taking office, with a focus on redistributing responsibilities among product design, hardware engineering, and key underlying technology teams. The first round of adjustments emphasized decentralizing responsibilities, while this round focuses on the management approach for core product design, covering a broader scope. Previously, Kate Bergeron was primarily responsible for major product designs, but now these responsibilities will be shared by her two deputies, with Bergeron overseeing product reliability efforts and teams related to material usage. Tom Marlib will take over as the head of the hardware engineering department. Since Ternus assumed the role of Apple CEO on September 1st, two executives under his purview have shifted to report directly to Srouji. Additionally, Zongjian Chen, Apple's baseband lead, has seen an expansion of his authority, taking on responsibility for the battery and camera engineering teams, as well as sensor software development, including Apple Watch's non-invasive blood glucose monitoring project.
