On December 11, 2025, Google made an official announcement regarding the launch of the 'Android Emergency Live Video' function on the Android platform. This innovative feature is accessible on devices operating on Android 8 and later versions. It empowers emergency event dispatchers to request real-time video feeds from users' phones during emergencies. This capability significantly aids frontline emergency responders in precisely evaluating the on-site situation. This is especially valuable in critical situations where users are unable to articulate their circumstances clearly, perhaps due to injury, being trapped, or other unforeseen factors. When a dispatcher initiates a real-time video request, a notification will promptly appear on the user's phone screen. With just a single tap, the user can commence the live video stream. At present, users are not able to initiate the video stream themselves; only certified emergency response personnel possess the authority to trigger such requests. For security and privacy, all video streams are encrypted end-to-end by default. Moreover, users retain the right to decline or terminate the video sharing at any given moment. This function has already been implemented in select regions across the United States, Germany, and Mexico. Google is actively collaborating with public safety agencies globally and has ambitions to progressively extend its availability to a broader range of countries and regions in the near future.
