On November 4 (local time), Apple made an announcement regarding the launch of multiple new API interfaces and sandbox testing tools. These are crafted to aid developers in adhering to the SB2420 bill, which is slated to come into effect in Texas on January 1, 2026. These API enhancements have been rolled out in tandem with the iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 developer beta versions.
Even though Apple is providing these tools to support developers in fulfilling legal obligations, the company has voiced its apprehensions about potential privacy threats that might surface. Apple has rolled out four pivotal feature updates, encompassing age classification details, consent mechanisms for substantial changes, notifications for parental revocation of authorization, and a sandbox testing setting.
Apple is urging developers to peruse the pertinent documentation and carry out updates promptly. They should leverage the sandbox environment to verify API implementations and submit updated versions following the release of the RC candidate version. Moreover, Apple has plans to introduce tools down the line to assist developers in complying with analogous laws in Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil.
