JD.com intends to capitalize on its robust supply chain to further diversify the retail consumer landscape in Hong Kong. According to reports, JD.com is poised to acquire Hong Kong's Wellcome supermarket for approximately HK$4 billion, with the deal anticipated to be announced in August. Wellcome, which currently operates around 90 stores specializing in fresh produce and daily essentials, will be part of this acquisition, inclusive of transitional arrangements allowing the Wellcome founder team to maintain operational control for a period of three years.
Concurrently, JD.com is expediting the growth of its proprietary supermarket brand, "JD.com 7FRESH," which counted 71 stores as of March this year. Beyond this, JD.com aims to intensify its presence in the foodservice industry by introducing the "7FRESH Kitchen" and "Dish Partner" initiatives, aiming to establish 10,000 outlets within the next three years. Notably, JD.com has recently reduced its stake in Yonghui Superstores to focus resources on refining its own retail strategy.
