On October 16, during the Energy Storage Value Innovation Forum at the 2026 World Energy Storage Conference, Li Zhen, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Energy Storage Alliance, disclosed that as of the third quarter of this year, China’s cumulative installed capacity for power energy storage has surged to 252.2 GW. This marks a year-on-year increase of 41.3% and an 18.2% rise compared to the end of 2025. Notably, the share of pumped hydro storage within the total installed capacity has seen a decline, dropping by 3.4 percentage points from the end of 2025 and approximately 7.3 percentage points year-on-year. Li Zhen highlighted that new energy storage technologies are rapidly evolving towards diversification and longer durations. Specifically, the proportion of non-lithium new energy storage technologies has increased by 0.5 percentage points year-on-year. Furthermore, the share of long-duration energy storage technologies, such as flow batteries and compressed air, has also risen by 0.4 percentage points.
