Commercial divers are responsible for complex tasks such as the operation and maintenance of underwater infrastructure, emergency response, and salvage operations. However, the industry faces a talent gap, and underwater working conditions are harsh and risky. Traditional underwater robots excel only at inspection and find it difficult to complete tasks requiring contact and force application. After making breakthroughs in key technologies such as underwater stable adhesion, the team led by Professor Lei Yong from Zhejiang University, which has long been researching underwater robot technology, established Qianjiang Technology. They modularized their technology and proposed the research and development concept of 'mechanical frogmen.' Using immersive remote operation technology, they are gradually exploring autonomous operations, aiming to allow divers to operate from shore while robots take their place in dangerous waters. This approach converts divers' experience into reusable skills, reduces the burden on divers, and addresses challenges in underwater operations. Currently, the team is advancing prototype development and has completed a seed funding round worth tens of millions.
