As per a report from Cailian Press dated June 26, 2026, Elon Musk's SpaceX is gearing up to launch a new Starlink retail mobile service tailored for U.S. consumers. Additionally, the company is contemplating the construction of its own land-based mobile network within the United States. During an IPO roadshow, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell disclosed that the company is delving into the possibility of selling mobile contracts directly to individual users and crafting retail products. This strategic move would position SpaceX in direct rivalry with the three dominant U.S. carriers: Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. In the past, SpaceX mainly enhanced network coverage in rural regions through collaborations with telecom entities like T-Mobile. This new retail approach signifies its shift from being merely a satellite infrastructure provider to evolving into a national mobile communications operator. By the close of 2025, Starlink's worldwide active user count had exceeded 9 million, with its service reaching over 160 countries and regions. Its revenue for 2025 soared to $10.6 billion, capturing roughly 35% of the global satellite communications market. Should this plan come to fruition, SpaceX will emerge as the fourth-largest national carrier in the U.S., thereby causing further upheaval in the traditional telecommunications market.
