On June 26, the "Global Marine Heatwave Forecast Product," which was independently developed by the National Marine Environmental Forecast Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources, was officially launched for operational use. Marine heatwaves are characterized by prolonged periods of unusually high sea temperatures, specifically when the sea temperature remains above the long-term average for five consecutive days or more. This innovative product is capable of predicting the onset, dissipation, spatial extent, and intensity fluctuations of marine heatwaves across global waters over the upcoming week. Its implementation significantly bolsters China's capacity to foresee and respond to marine heatwave disasters.
