Recently, the Firefox browser has officially incorporated preliminary support for Vulkan Video into its development branch. This move introduces a fresh GPU video hardware decoding route to this widely-used open-source browser, signifying a notable leap forward for Mozilla in enhancing video playback speed. In the past, the Firefox browser for Linux mainly depended on the Video Acceleration API (VA-API) for hardware decoding. Nevertheless, VA-API hasn't enjoyed broad and uniform support across all graphics drivers. This situation not only amplified the adaptation workload for NVIDIA users but also put many Arm-based embedded devices at a competitive disadvantage in the realm of video acceleration.
