In the Heidaigou Open-Pit Coal Mine, located in Zhungeer Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, two 300-ton-class mining trucks, equipped with Weichai’s 12M55 powertrain, have successfully completed an 18,000-hour reliability test. This achievement led the expert panel to approve the acceptance of this significant milestone (achievement/result). Previously, China's 300-ton-class mining trucks heavily depended on foreign-branded engines, making this breakthrough particularly noteworthy.
These 300-ton-class mining trucks are tasked with heavy-duty transportation, and 18,000 hours of operation is equivalent to over 1,200 days of consistent performance. The mining trucks, now equipped with domestically produced engines (often referred to as the "hearts" of the vehicles), showcase China’s technological self-reliance and prowess.
The field of large-scale mining powertrains is characterized by high technological sophistication and is protected by significant industry barriers. Foreign-branded mining trucks do not share operational data with China, posing a potential threat to national energy security. To counter this, Weichai, in collaboration with China Energy Zhungeer Energy Group, developed the 12M55 engine. This engine features a fully independently controllable core system and has established an independently controllable supply chain system.
