Following an antitrust lawsuit filed by DirecTV and attorneys general from eight U.S. states, a U.S. court issued a temporary restraining order against Nexstar Media Group's $6.2 billion acquisition of Tegna, prohibiting both parties from integrating assets. This order came just 72 hours after the Trump administration approved the merger. The judge argued that the merger could eliminate competition, lead to newsroom layoffs or closures, and pose challenges in enforcing asset divestitures if required. The temporary restraining order is valid for 14 days, during which Nexstar must present arguments to the court as to why a longer-term preliminary injunction should not be issued.
