German biopharmaceutical company BioNTech filed a lawsuit against Moderna in a federal court in Delaware on Thursday, accusing its COVID-19 vaccine mNEXSPIKE of infringing on patents related to the Comirnaty vaccine developed by BioNTech in collaboration with Pfizer. The patents involve technology to simplify mRNA vaccine design, allowing for lower-dose administration. Moderna had previously sued BioNTech and Pfizer for patent infringement in 2022, and that lawsuit is still ongoing. BioNTech claims that mNEXSPIKE is expected to account for 55% of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine revenue.
