The Ubuntu development team recently confirmed that the upcoming Ubuntu 26.04 Long-Term Support (LTS) release, scheduled for April this year, will set OpenJDK 25 as the system's default Java version, replacing the currently default OpenJDK 21. This adjustment will be implemented through an update to the java-common package and is currently available in the proposed-main form in the Ubuntu 26.04 repository codenamed Resolute. It is expected to soon move to the main repository for broader testing.
