U.S. fusion energy startup Helion announced that its seventh-generation prototype, Polaris, has successfully heated plasma to 150 million degrees Celsius, reaching three-quarters of the temperature threshold required for commercial fusion power generation. This marks a key technical validation for its goal of supplying fusion power to Microsoft by 2028. Previously, Helion agreed with Microsoft in 2023 to provide power through its first 50-megawatt fusion power plant, Orion, by 2028, while most fusion companies have commercialization timelines set for after 2030.
