On February 8 (local time), Musk stated on a social platform that SpaceX has shifted its focus to building self-expanding cities on the Moon, with an expected timeline of within 10 years, while reaching Mars would take more than 20 years. Since the launch window to Mars occurs every 26 months with a 6-month journey, whereas lunar launches can occur as frequently as every 10 days with a journey of just 2 days, the iteration speed for lunar city construction will be faster. Nevertheless, SpaceX still plans to initiate Mars city construction within 5 to 7 years.
