Recently, a Chinese research team has achieved a remarkable feat. Leveraging the National Major Scientific and Technological Infrastructure—the Comprehensive Extreme Conditions Experimental Facility—they have successfully engineered a fully superconducting user magnet. This magnet boasts a central magnetic field strength of 35.6 tesla, a new world record. To put it into perspective, this magnetic field is over 700,000 times more intense than that of Earth's. The development of this magnet was a collaborative effort between the Institute of Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Physics, both under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Featuring an available aperture of 35 millimeters, this magnet is set to offer extreme high magnetic field experimental conditions to research teams both domestically and internationally.
