On January 10th, as per the official website of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), China intends to submit an application to the ITU in December 2025 for frequency and orbital resources to accommodate over 200,000 satellites. Of these, over 190,000 will be proposed by the newly founded Radio Innovation Institute. Ding Botao, the deputy director of the Information Research Institute at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, along with experts from prominent commercial satellite firms, highlighted that this move underscores how the pursuit of satellite frequency and orbital resources has now reached the national strategic echelon. Although these satellite resources are currently in the application phase, industry insiders are upbeat about the Radio Innovation Institute's potential as a key player—dubbed the 'national team'—in the satellite internet domain. They believe it will efficiently consolidate industrial resources and capitalize on China's vast market advantages.
