Nestled within the Shougang Shuicheng Iron and Steel Plant in Liupanshui, Guizhou, the "Super Carbon One" demonstration project stands as a beacon of innovation. This project houses the world's inaugural commercial supercritical carbon dioxide power generation unit. This groundbreaking technology marks the first application of supercritical carbon dioxide in the realm of efficient electricity generation. In contrast to conventional steam power generation, which relies on water as its medium, "Super Carbon One" propels turbine-based power generation by heating and pressurizing supercritical carbon dioxide.
Supercritical carbon dioxide power generation technology represents a cutting-edge frontier, boasting superior efficiency, a more compact footprint, and a swifter response time compared to traditional steam power systems. To illustrate, the "Super Carbon One" equipment occupies merely half the space of its conventional counterparts, while elevating power generation efficiency by over 85% and amplifying net power output by more than 50%. Construction on this project commenced at the close of 2023, with a focus on sintering waste heat recovery at the steel plant. Now, it has seamlessly transitioned into commercial operation. Anticipated annual electricity generation is projected to reach an additional 70 million kilowatt-hours, translating into nearly 30 million yuan in power generation revenue.
