On December 29 local time, British power company Octopus Energy announced that it would spin off its tech unit Kraken at a valuation of $8.65 billion, making it an independent company. This round of financing is led by U.S. investment firm D1 Capital Partners, with new and existing investors purchasing approximately $1 billion worth of equity in Kraken. Meanwhile, investors led by Octopus Capital will also inject an additional $320 million into Octopus Energy.
