In a landmark development, China's pioneering brain-computer interface surgery, conducted with pricing set under government guidance, was successfully carried out in Wuhan, Hubei Province. This milestone event signifies the formal integration of implantable brain-computer interface technology into China's standardized medical service framework. On November 26, at Tongji Hospital, which is part of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, surgeons implanted an invasive brain-computer interface device into a 31-year-old patient suffering from a spinal cord injury. The fee for the surgical implantation was set at 6,552 yuan (excluding the cost of the device), with all expenses being covered by research grants.
