Microsoft has issued an urgent out-of-band update, KB5071959, specifically crafted to address a glitch that hindered Windows 10 users from enrolling in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This particular bug led to the abrupt failure of the registration wizard, rendering devices incapable of receiving crucial security updates. With mainstream support for Windows 10 concluding on October 14 of this year, Microsoft introduced the ESU program. This initiative enables users to prolong their access to security update services for a fee, with varying pricing tiers for individual and enterprise customers, along with options for complimentary access. Microsoft has already deployed the inaugural extended security update, KB5068781, to devices participating in the ESU program. Users impacted by this bug can now seamlessly finalize their ESU registration post-installation of KB5071959 and subsequent device restart, thereby securing the latest monthly security updates.
