On October 8, the Financial Times reported that Meta Platforms and Apple are currently in settlement talks with the European Commission concerning two antitrust cases, aiming to prevent an escalation of fines from Brussels. Sources familiar with the negotiations disclosed that these two American tech behemoths are nearing a consensus with European regulators to revamp a range of business practices.

Back in April of this year, Meta and Apple were collectively fined €700 million for breaching the EU's Digital Markets Act. Specifically, Meta was slapped with a €200 million penalty and mandated to overhaul its 'pay or consent' framework, which forces users to either consent to data tracking or pay a subscription fee for ad-free experiences. European authorities initially deemed Meta's proposed reforms as inadequate; however, there is now a growing sense of optimism that a workable solution is within reach.

Furthermore, Apple unveiled its intentions in June to revise its App Store policies. Meanwhile, the European Commission continues to engage in discussions with Apple regarding another probe into new contract terms for developers, with the aim of identifying any potential necessary modifications.
